ISLAMABAD: A witness of the plaintiff presented Hussain Nawaz’s bank account details before the accountability court in Islamabad on Wednesday as it resumed the hearing of the references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against the Sharif family.
Five witnesses had been summoned to record their statements in the Flagship and Al-Azizia references. As the hearing went underway, prosecution witness Noreen Shahzadi recorded her statement and submitted details of the bank account of Hussain Nawaz. Judge Muhammad Bashir observed that the worksheet of the bank account was unreadable and directed the witness to submit a better copy. Nawaz’s lawyer Khawaja Haris raised objection over the witness’s documents.
During the hearing, Additional Prosecutor General Akbar Tarar appeared before the bench. He shared the data about the number of prosecution witnesses who had already recorded their statements and who have yet to appear before the accountability court for the purpose.
The NAB had filed three interim corruption references against the Sharif family in September last year in light of the Supreme Court’s July 28 verdict in the Panama Papers case. The bureau has recently filed supplementary references in all three cases as well.
Talking to journalists present in the courtroom before the hearing began, Nawaz Sharif said, “Those from Bani Gala and Karachi have bowed down in Sanjrani’s court.” He was referring to the Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf supporting Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani who recently won the top slot in the Upper House.
On March 7, the Supreme Court had extended for two months the deadline for the accountability court hearing three references against the Sharif family.
