Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif finds himself in the grip of another challenge pertaining to appointments. A petitioner has challenged in the Sindh High Court the appointment of Qasim Niaz as Chairman of the Tariff Commission.
The Court has, in turn, notified the Secretary of Commerce, the National Tariff Commission and the Deputy Attorney General, and asked them to respond within the first week of May.
Nawaz Sharif appointed Qasim Niaz as Chairman of the Tariff Commission. The petitioner challenged the appointment on the grounds that the Supreme Court had ordained that authority to make this appointment rested with the Cabinet, and not with the Prime Minister.
